Let It Rain In California

It is no secret that California is in the worst drought in the history of the state. It is also no secret, that California is in the worst condition socially and politically that it has ever been and it seems to be getting worse every day.

Could the two of these things be related?

Today as I was reading my Bible I came across the prayer Solomon prayed as he dedicated the temple that he built to the Lord. I’m sure I’ve read this before, but it never jumped out at me the way it did today.

1 Kings 8:35-36 reads:

“When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them: Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.”

Isn’t that interesting? Sin and drought are connected. Likewise, repentance and rain are also connected.

Furthermore, The Lord is speaking to Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:13-14:

“If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people which are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven I will forgive them and heal their land.”

I know there are some who believe that the Old Testament is not relevant or applicable to the world we live in today; but the Bible says that God is the same yesterday today and forever. The Bible cannot be parted out, or discarded as irrelevant for today’s time. The same principles that worked 2000 years ago still work today.

Sin and our unwillingness to forgive others is often a reason prayers don’t get answered or sickness increases. We can see in this passage of scripture that repentance is required because sin is the reason there was no rain on the land.

Repentance is one of the keys that moves the hand of God.  It’s very clear throughout his word.

As believers, if we will unite together in prayer, to pray for our leaders, asking God to forgive all those who have brought drought to California as a result of their unholy laws and sin in our state; and if we will do as the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, and seek the Lord, He says in his word he will bring rain.

I take God at his word. I believe what the Bible says. I believe if Christian’s would pray, then God will move in a mighty way.

I would love to see it rain throughout California in the middle of summer. What a miracle that would be and a testimony to the power of repentance, the power of prayer, the power of his word, and the sovereignty of God.

Let’s do it!

Will you join me and pray?

Lord, we come together, as people who desire to serve you and do your will.  You are the God of heaven and earth.  We stand together in unity and ask that you forgive us of all our sin and forgive the leaders in California who have sinned and brought about all sorts of evil to our state, including drought.  We are asking you to open the windows of heaven and let it rain in California.  We ask that you would divinely turn the tide of California, for your people’s sake. In Jesus name!
